Busy refit season follows bumper show season

While the official 2016 yacht show season has finished, Monaco Marine would like to thank all of its customers and partners who met with them during this year’s Monaco Yacht Show. Monaco Marine were pleased to welcome giests to their new pavilion, which was the perfect environment for engaging in productive conversations. They hope to see guests again next year at the same central location. In the meantime, check out their short video here (in case you missed it at MYS!).

While yacht show season may be over, refit season is well and truly underway. In La Ciotat, the yard is full with projects moving full speed ahead including major refit work on a 62m CMN and 55m Benetti. Work includes full paint, interior fit-outs and structural modifications, keeping our team busy through until delivery next Spring.

Keeping it in-house

Mechanics, metal and electrical components play a central role in the design and build of superyachts, so expertise in these disciplines is a prerequisite for refit yards. Monaco Marine La Ciotat’s in-house mechanical, metal and electrical workshops play a pivotal role in their operations.

Monaco Marine’s team of mechanists has expertise in superyacht propulsion, shaft lines and steering apparatus and can create custom parts for any system. Their understanding of metrology operations and diagnostics means they can provide specialist advice and they can carry out laser measurements and alignment of bearings, engines and gearboxes, leaving absolutely no room for error.

Onboard a superyacht, meticulously polished surfaces are the standard; knowing how to achieve such finishes is an art in itself. Monaco Marine’s team of metal work specialists apply their craftsmanship to any custom part to achieve mirror-like finishes. Their expertise extends to piping, from disassembly to testing onboard, as well as installation of new equipment such as supporting structures and associated pipework.

When it comes to the intricacies of onboard electrical systems, Monaco Marine’s team of electricians ensure everything runs without interruption. As well as ensuring electrical distribution to everyone involved in a project, the team is specialized in thermography and megger testing onboard, installing cables and carrying out diagnoses of electric motors.

Production Manager Joël Averardo is at the helm, coordinating the works programme, ensuring resources are directed as and where needed. Joël also ensures the teams undergo industry-certified training courses and regularly update mandatory safety qualifications, while also keeping an eye on trends. “There is always something to learn, so in addition to training and certification courses, our staff attend yacht and trade shows to keep abreast of new technologies and innovations,” explains Joël.

“We keep an eye on what other refit yards are doing and encourage our clients to give us feedback so that we can continuously improve what we deliver. And on top of that, it’s important to remain open-minded and stay curious. It’s essential that we’re constantly learning and adapting.”
